Classically trained guitarist Sean Barrett is a virtuoso whose daunting skills are matched only by his swaggering creativity. Based in the Detroit area, Sean has been playing for over 20 years. During his early teens he racked up 25 first place awards in the American Guild of Music’s regional and national competitions, and was runner-up in the North American Invitational Championship. Sean studied music at the University of Michigan, and classical guitar at Wayne State University. He has studied with some of the world’s greatest classical guitarists including Carlos Barbosa-Lima, William Kanengiser, Scott Tenant, and Antigone Gone, and now teaches master classes of his own. Sean’s experience is by no means limited to classical music. He has played with a wide range of musicians, including the legendary Carl Perkins, rap pioneer Kurtis Blow, plus Paul Shaffer and Will Lee from the Late Show with David Letterman. In addition to collaborating with national and Detroit-based musicians, Sean’s solo work explores the limits of progressive rock and classical guitar, often blending the two genres in a way that highlights his technical brilliance and creative genius.
